Tips for construction quotes
Always list rubble removal as a separate line. It's a real cost and the client needs to know it exists. If you don't include it, the cost comes out of your pocket.
Separate bricklayer and general worker rates in the quote. They have different costs and the client understands the price breakdown better.
For renovations, clearly state what is NOT included: plumbing, electrics, cupboards, appliances. Each exclusion is a line that prevents a future argument.
For jobs above R20,000, a staged payment structure helps a lot. A R50,000 renovation split into a deposit, progress payment, and final balance is much easier to approve than the full amount upfront, and each stage lands via PayShap or EFT as it's due.

Should I include materials in the labour price?
No. Always separate materials and labour. The client wants to know how much the bricks, cement, and sand cost versus the work itself. Transparency builds trust.
How do I quote for demolition?
Include demolition and rubble removal as separate lines. Demolition can be priced per m² (R90 to R180/m²) or as a fixed service. The skip hire is always separate.
When should I ask for a deposit?
